The sides are also finished with cloisonné work, featuring stylized floral motifs on a scrolling black ground, framed with gilt metal mounts. Japanese stoneware brush pot, late Meiji period (circa 1890–1915), decorated with two humorous domestic scenes in underglaze and overglaze enamels against a warm iron-brown ground. One side depicts a woman grooming a seated man as he winces in exaggerated discomfort; the opposing scene shows another woman cleaning a man’s ear (mimikaki), rendered with lively expression and gentle caricature...

Framed Japanese woodblock print, “Evening Snow at Kambara”, No. 16 from “The 53 Stations of the Tokaido” by Utagawa Hiroshige (1797~1858). Dates circa 1833. Frame measures 19.25ʺ × 14.25ʺ. Not inspected out of frame, sight size is 14 x 9 inches.

A mirror image pair of Japanese Meiji Era bronze vases with a bird hovering over flowers on both sides, and foo lion handles. Signed on bottom, these have excellent detailing and very good weight to them. Measure 13.75 inches high.

An interesting Japanese porcelain plate decorated with a central roundel of prunus, pine and bamboo, The Three Friends. The remainder is decorated with stylized flower heads on a cracked ice ground. The detail and spur marks indicate that this piece is Japanese with Chinese Kangxi design references. Measures 11.25 inches in diameter

Late 19th C Japanese copper cloisonné vase with superb decoration depicting, on a glossy black ground, a group of 3 cranes on one side and a pair of cranes on the opposing side. Has an open bottom. Vase measures 6.5" high.

Circa 1870s-90s Japanese Hirado porcelain vase with a globular body raised on a short footrim and rising to a slender, knopped neck with everted mouth and galleried rim. Decorated in underglaze cobalt blue with a falcon perched on the bole of a gnarled pine tree, a band of lappets around the foot, and the rim with a continuous key-fret border, it is in excellent condition. Measures 10.5" high x 6.5" diameter

Large blue and white Arita (Imari) porcelain fluted dish. Decorated with a flowered basket having a bird and pomegranates, it dates early 20th C Japan, Taisho. Measures 15.75ʺ diameter × 2.75ʺ high.

An antique Fubako, letter box, of a rarely seen design with a black ground having a flowing gold sprinkled pattern featuring wheel and wind/water designs in relief. There is also a lovely sprinkled design to the interior. The exterior bottom, which is covered when the box is closed, has the wheel designs and is very bright showing very little if any wear. Still retaining its original silk tasseled roping, this box is in superb condition...

Small Japanese circular covered box in gold nashiji and maki-e lacquer with the lid having a lovely display of iris flowers in a stream setting created in both low and raised relief lacquer work The sides also feature raised delicate designs that complete this perfect little box. In excellent antique condition, it measures 2-1/2" diameter and 1-7/8" high. Dates Late Edo or Early Meiji and a piece worthy of a collector.

Edo Era, circa 1850s-1860s, Japanese red lacquer over wood Japanese Bento Box in 5 sections. The exterior features Shibayama style of inlay on a red lacquer ground with the interior and underside being black lacquer. The Shibayama design has several types of stone inlays including MOP with branching, cherry blossoms, leaves, buds and rockery all done in raised work. The workmanship is very good...

Original Japanese woodblock print by Kitao Masanobu (1761 – 1816) from the “Eastern Tune Koyka by Fifty Poets”, date 1786. The color woodblock print depicts an image of a seated warrior with a poem above. Print has toning, spots, and marks throughout, fading to inks, loss of red ink stripes on face, abrasions to lower right corner. Not examined out of frame.

The sides are cast in relief with a temple compound amid pines in a generic landscape, the reverse with sparrows in flight, all above a key-fret band. The kettle has a typical stubby "S" spout, wrought iron overhead swing handle, and is fitted with a bronze lid having "garlic clove" knop...
