Japanese cloisonné hinged box of elongated rectangular form, decorated on the lid with a brightly enameled bird perched among flowering branches against a black ground. The sides are also finished with cloisonné work, featuring stylized floral motifs on a scrolling black ground, framed with gilt metal mounts. The interior is metal-lined and opens on a piano-style hinge. Measures approximately 7 inches long by 3.5 inches wide by 1.5 inches high. The form and proportions are consistent with mid-20th-century Japanese cloisonné boxes produced for functional desktop use, including cigarette or personal storage boxes. Cloisonne in excellent condition, light wear to metal edges and age-related interior patina, consistent with age.
