Very rare tomesode with blue birds. A light to medium weight crepe silk decorated with yuzen dyeing techique and small touches of silk embroidery. On the front panels each bird’s head and throat is embroidered using satin stitch method. Some of the leaves are accented with fine gold threads at their edges and a small grouping of flowers are decorated with very small French knots. A lovely Japanese painting on paper of two men observing the moon. This scroll was sold on consignment by a Japanese dealer named Sakura. According to Sakura and in his opinion, this painting would date from 1800-1849, and is in fair to good condition. All genuine antique scrolls will show signs of wear and discoloration and in some cases damp staining. The painting appears to be salvaged and remounted at least 20 years ago. A rare sake-daru (Sake Keg) made of piled woven bamboo in combination with Japanese red lacquered pine. This tsuno-daru has two horn-like staves with inscriptions, a cross piece forming a carrying handle, and a wooden plug that pulls out. This saki barrel dates pre 1920. Sake casks such as this were prepared by sake factories to be used for special ceremonial occasions in the late 19th to the early 20th centuries. In excellent condition, it measures 21” tall and 7” in diameter.
