Petite Southeast Asian Lime Pot with Crackle Glaze stock #L8J2limePot

A rare and beautifully made lime pot with a crackle glaze. The lime in these pots helped to soften the betel nut, making it easy to chew. Any genuine antique lime pot will show signs of wear and use, those that are perfect, are most likely new. Evidence of a crusty white residue around the mouth should be present, as well as some wear to the glaze. This small lime pot is charming and displays very well. Typically used through out Southeast Asia, these are quite rare. In excellent used condition, it measures 4" (10.2 cm)high by 3" (7.6 cm)diameter. We date this to the 19th century. |
