Wonderful white marble owl sculpture by Canadian Inuit artist Lukta Qiatsuk. Sculpture measures 13.5" high, on stand measures 15" high. Comes with complete documentation which includes a postage stamp that he designed for the Canadian government. Purchased August 3, 1995.
ABOUT THE ARTIST Lukta Qiatsuk, 1928 – 2004, was a Canadian Postwar & Contemporary Inuit artist from Cape Dorset, Nunavut Territory, Canada. Qiatsuk came from a family of artists and was an excellent carver and printmaker. One of his favorite subjects was birds. He and his father, Kiakshuk ,were both included in the monumental Inuit traveling exhibition "Sculpture of the Inuit: Masterworks of the Canadian Arctic". Numerous key galleries and museums, such as Marion Scott Gallery and the National Art Gallery of Canada, have shown his work in the past. |
