19th C Stevens and Williams Art Glass with Nursing Lamb Farm Scene

Although not marked, this art glass piece bears the styling and quality of Victorian pieces made by the Stevens and Williams Ltd of England and in the 1870s under the direction of John Northwood (son Harry Northwood was a glass maker in America). The body is an oval pill-shaped translucent light turquoise glass with an open oval top that is bordered with a scalloped ribbon crest. At each narrow end is a small applique of amber glass. The piece is also supported with four pinched amber glass feet. On the back is an enameled painting of a long-leafed plant in variegated green, blue and dark orange. On the front is a farm landscape of a lamb nursing its mother, the framework of a small barn enclosure, white slat fencing and small long-leafed sprigs of plants in greens blues and dark orange. In very good without any scratches, chips or repairs, it measures height 3.75 inches, length 9.75", depth 3.5"
