A rare Chinese porcelain moon flask vase or pilgrim's bottle that is beautifully designed with birds, trees, rocks, flowers and fruit. This hand painted vase is a genuinely old porcelain, so identified by the use of gold accents that is lead based, producing when held in a certain angle a brown appearance but when turned shows a bright gold. This is Chinese doucai porcelain where all the outlines are done in a cobalt blue then later fired with various enamel colors that fill in the design. The unglazed biscuit on the base (foot)is smooth, and what you see is genuine wear through age. We date this bottle to the 19th century, this we know due the type gold technique used and is before the glossy glass like gold that was used in the very early 20th. It stands 11 3/4 high.
