19th century, miniature French self-portrait painting of Elizabeth Vigee-Lebrun with her daughter. Lebrun caused a public scandal when her “Self-Portrait with Her Daughter Julie” was exhibited at the Salon of 1787 showing her smiling and open-mouthed (“bearing her teeth”), which was in direct contravention of traditional painting conventions going back to antiquity. Painted in wonderful realist style the colors are still vibrant having been protected from the elements all these years...

A 20th century Benin bronze African leopard head. Sculpted by hand, then cast in bronze by the lost wax process, this is a one-of-a-kind piece. Bronze leopard heads were often worn as hip or waist ornaments by African tribal chiefs. Has a beautiful patina that only comes with age. Dates circa mid 20th century. A very impressive African tribal Senufo bird statue measuring 61.75 inches high with a 25" wingspan. The bird's wings are carved in relief with images of lizards, crocodiles, turtles and birds. The body beneath the beak has a carving of a large lizard. The rest of the bird features repeated geometric carvings on front and back. Original Pablo Picasso (1881-1973),copper engraving titled "L'Anneau" from "Grace et Mouvement" signed in the plate (lower right) and numbered 75/100 in pencil (in the margin lower left). Picasso made a series of 14 drawings to accompany poems by Sappho. These were made into copper engravings in 1943 and this particular work is one from that set known as "Grace et Mouvement". Oil on board painting by African American Folk Artist Black Joe Jackson (1922-1997) of sharecroppers picking cotton along a creek. Born near Atlanta, Ga in 1920 to a poor share-cropper family, Jackson painted on board and used other available materials including house paint to create his art. He painted what he saw and remembered from his childhood. Born dyslexic as evidenced by his lettering, the painting is signed “Black Joe Jackson” and titled “Cotn Pikin at Crik”...
