Antique Pierced Metal Opium Den Lamp, Chinese stock #JHopDoorLam

Dating around the 1920s is this 8-sided pierced metal opium lamp. Each of the eight panels has glass inserts to protect the flame. A pair of doors opens in the front to light the flame and in some cases to heat the opium tar housed in a damper bowl at the end of an opium pipe. This lamp is in original condition with a removable brass burner. All the cut-outs are intact. I have not identified the metal, but there is a faint coating of rust on the lamp. This lamp was designed to be hung by a chain or to sit on a table. There are feet and pierce work on the bottom for air circulation if placed on a wood table. Measurements: 8.5” high x 5” wide. |
