click for detailed views

Stoutly potted pair of large blue and white porcelain Chinese foo dog censers. Each features an applied collar with beads and a tassel, a curled up-swept tail at the rear, and a turtle at their feet. The cover is in the form of the raised head with bulging eyes, mouth agape baring teeth and tongue, spiraling tufts of hair, all contributing to a fierce demeanor. They sit on a grassy mound with applied stylized flowers. Ming style and painted in inky tones of cobalt blue, these censers date mid to 3 rd quarter 20th century. In excellent original condition, they measure 14 inches high, 8.5” long, 7” across.
