Set of 4, Tiffany Studios gilt bronze Venetian pattern desk blotter corners. All marked: Tiffany Studios, New York, 1894. Outer edges measure 4.75 each and depth measure 2.5". Height is minimal.

Purchased over 40 years ago at Restoration Hardware, this archaic style bronze ram's head was the only piece they had in their store. I suspect it was a decorative item that RH purchased as an accent piece for one of their room settings. The holes on this reproduction ram indicates that the original bronze ram was affixed to an instrument. An impressive piece, this was probably made in the first decade of the 20th C Measures 14" long, 7.5" high, and 12" across the horns.

Early 20th Century Chinese celadon jade carving of lotus pods bursting with seeds. Excellent condition, measures 2.5” long x 1.5” wide x 1” high

Republic period, 1940s or earlier, semi translucent jade brush washer, or possibly a snuff tray, in an unusual oval shape with a small carved flower button in the center. The jade has a lovely soft polished surface which is always rare to find. Color is best described as white jade with a pale celadon tint and, for presentation; we have it resting on a white jade bi from a later date. Both are included in the sale. A large dish used for raw fish or shellfish (mukozuke) for the tea ceremony in which guests are served. It measures at 11.75” square x 2” high. This dish is designed in the traditional Japanese ascetic of simple brush strokes and relaxed design; such a dish was not intended for export and does not conform to the Western ascetic of gaudy and over crowded design. A true testament of genuine Japanese tradition. The plate dates to the late Meiji to early Tashio period (1900-20).

One of the best shiwan (shekwan) sculptures we've ever encountered, this large masterpiece displays the legendary Laozi riding an ox: Laozi means "old master". A very beautifully rendered Japanese treasure ship with intricate details that are just amazing, this large cast iron antique is lacquered with the 'old red' traditional lacquer that can only be found on your older Japanese antiques. Its function is rare as it doubles up as a censer, fine slit holes are found in the front and backsides of the sail, allowing a fine mist of smoke to create an allusion that the ship is sailing through a fog. This Qing Dynasty cloisonne box dates late 19th to pre-1910. Exhibiting a beautiful patina, the box is composed of brass with copper on the exterior. In excellent condition and a real visual pleasure, the box measures 3"x 4”.

Early 1900 Japanese silk fukusa featuring a turtle and a crane. Techniques used to create this wonderful fukusa are sumi-e hand painting, yuzen resist dying, some embroidery, and gold foil couching. On the reverse is red rinzu silk with crane and mons motif. Two original tassels are still intact at the bottom. There is a small cluster of tiny gray spots by the crane, see last photo. Otherwise, in very good condition/excellent, it measures 25” wide x 27” high.

Carved in fine detail is this deep red cinnabar box of a scholar with young boy in a garden setting. Made in the traditional method of applying many layers of cinnabar red lacquer, the carvings are deep and well executed. The inside and bottom of this box are black lacquer. In excellent condition, this box dates approximately 1910-1920 and measures about 4” x 2” (10 cm x 5 cm)

A very well painted and delightful Kutani tea caddy, perfect condition and has its original inner cap lid still intact also in perfect condition. It measures 11 cm (4.3 inches) high and dates pre-1920, circa 1912-15.

A golden brocaded basket suspended in air and filled with flowers. A bird resting on a branch while another flutters about surrounded by the joy of spring. This cup and saucer is one of my personal favorites, delicate and translucent and without flaw; the gold accentuates the weaving of the basket, the flowers well arranged, and every detail seems to spring to life. An early Republic Period hat stand painted in Qianjiang style with Shou Lao, the God of Longevity, carrying a branch of peaches. This lovely hat or wig stand can be used as a vase. In very good condition, it measures 11” high x 4.75” diameter.

I have seen many antique paintings of mountain tigers, but none with this level of realism. This Chinese painting dates late Qing, 1910-1912, possibly early Republic, pre 1920. The seal indicates that it came from a shop in Southern China. It measures approximately 17" wide x 48" high.
